Off Topic Thursday on Friday? coloring Easter Eggs naturally

I know I was supposed to do Off Topic Thursday actually ON Thursday, but it's spring break and I took my son to the zoo all day :) What I meant to blog about was dying eggs with natural things. I will be dying hard boiled eggs with Jack tomorrow, and will be using natural things. I found this great article, and plan to try a few of the ideas. What do you use to dye your eggs, other than food dyes?

I tried making my own egg dyes last year: http://mamatave.blogspot.com/2009/04/easter-eggs-way-mother-nature-intended.html
The process of making the dyes and then experimenting to see what works was a whole lot of fun for me--less so for a four-year-old who does not want to just wait for the egg to sit in the dye for several minutes...
This year, I did try to make green with spinach, but it just didn't work out since we were using only brown eggs. I am sure it would've been a nice pastel color if we'd had white eggs.
Beets are the best dye (which, anyone who has cut beets for cooking already knows!). The color is so vibrant, even on brown eggs.
Good luck; I'm sure you'll have fun!
