It's Tutorial Tuesday! Recycled wool doll & bottle scarves

Looking for easy & fast last minute stocking stuffers & hostess gifts? This is so easy, so fast, and a great use for your scraps! You can put them on your bottles & jars to dress up your hostess gifts, or stick them in the kids' stockings for their dolls & stuffed animals! Just take a scrap of felted wool, and cut it into a long skinny strip. The one shown below is 1" x 13" (the one on the doll is 22" x 1 1/2"), but these can be any length/thickness you want.

Now just cut fringes on the ends, and you are done!

Wasn't that easy?

Recycled wool & cashmere neck cowl

So I was in Walgreens yesterday, and an older lady chided me for not having a scarf on "that boy" (my son). Never mind that we were parked 10 feet from the door, he was wearing a down parka with a high collar & hood, mittens, boots, and a warm hat. I was clearly neglecting my child ;) It did however get me thinking that he didn't own a scarf. I hate scarfs for kids... don't get me wrong, they are adorable, but they are just not practical for little kids. Once they are bundled up there is no way they can wrap it around their necks & tie it in place properly. Even if you put it on them for them, if they are running around in the snow, it will eventually fall off. I decided a neck cowl was the way to go. I had some scraps left from a fabulous orange lambswool sweater I had used to make my son some longies & a hat with, so I patched pieces together, switching the direction of the ribbing as I went along. For the inside I used a tan moth eaten cashmere sweater I had. It's great! Here's a picture of me with it on (a little tight, because this is made for a 4 year old), since my son was napping when I took the pics.

When he got up I tried it on him & it was perfect. It is SO warm and cozy that I want to make another one for myself!

Eta: I made myself one! It goes great with my favorite hat from Fox Island Fancyworks and will be perfect for tomorrow, when my family goes to a tree farm to cut down a tree!

Fat Tabby Woolens

Last night we went to see Santa turn on the Christmas tree lights on the big tree at a local shopping center, outdoors, and it was the first time it was cold enough that I needed to wear hat/gloves/scarf. I forgot how cozy a cashmere scarf can be! Speaking of yummy cashmere scarves... I found a shop that has lots of them! At Etsy shop Fat Tabby Woolens you will find not only cashmere scarves, but beautiful cozy wool blankets, a fish named Elizabeth, and a even a novelty blanket... you'll have to go check that one out for yourself ;) I see some great Christmas presents in her shop!

Recycled scarf week scarf 2

Our second scarf for recycled wool scarf week is made by etsy shop Recycled Wool Designs. I love this funky scarf! I like how the colors are so different, but all go so well together. Don't forget to check out Recycled Wool Design's shop for more fabulous recycled wool items, like wreaths.

Recycled wool scarf week!

Since there are so many recycled wool projects that are the same item (hats, mittens, purses), but done so very differently, I have decided to show a different item each week. This week is scarf week! I'll kick it off by showing my gorgeous recycle cashmere scarf that was made by Tallulah's Satchels.
You can find her beautiful scarves, purses, & pillows on Artfire and Etsy.
