wool robe?

Someone asked me, months ago, if I knew of any tutorials for robes, or if I came up with any ideas to let her know. I have thought about it on and off for months. Hmm... that would take a lot of wool, and it wouldn't match... maybe patchwork... waist tie or button front? I pondered and pondered, but in the meantime, I had donated my fleece robe years ago, and realized that I will never need another. I don't need a robe, because I have my house sweaters, and perhaps, that's all she needs too! I pulled 2 super soft oversized cardigans from my stash a couple of years ago, and I wear them every day. I'm wearing one right now, and almost always am wearing one while i'm on the computer. On especially cold nights, I even sleep with them on. While they may not look the least bit attractive, they are house sweaters, and nobody ever sees them. Because they are wool, they never get stinky, like a robe can get if it's not washed often, and I never get that too hot, hot & cold, feeling that I get from fleece. So, I will probably never make a robe tutorial, because it's easier to just get yourself a house sweater!

I like that term "house sweater." I have some too--even some cashmere. When you buy at thrifts, you can have cashmere house sweaters.

btw, I actually found a wool robe at a thrift once and bought it for recycling, but can't bring myself to felt and cut it. I should check it out again. Also, my mom bought me a Pendleton wool robe, but, like you, I'm not much of a robe wearer, so I don't wear it often. (I especially hate the too long, too wide sleeves on most robes.)

If you're wearing a house sweater, you're dressed, and if you're wearing a robe, you're not. So I think I prefer a house sweater if it's going to be something you wear all day, unless you're sick, then robe. :)

I think a goodly-sized house sweater combined with a soft, preferably over-sized, wool skirt would make a pretty quick little wool robe.

I've got my own house sweater, too! A huge soft merino that's soft enough to wear against bare skin. Oh, and a big cashmere I got from you that's super-warm!

I have two house sweaters. An old indeterminate fiber brown that was my husband's grandmothers and a black alpaca one (which I am wearing now) that I got in a hand me down bag. It has holes in the cuffs and a few other places that I have mended, sort of, and it is just right. And has pockets.

Oh Kris, That was me asking for a wool robe idea! I had given up on the idea, and asked for a cotton flannel robe for Christmas, which I find great for wearing just out of the shower while doing my hair and face. I am so glad for your house sweater idea, and the one comment by Aihley to add a wool skirt, so I can wear a wool "robe" and still look/feel dressed! (I love to relax around the house in a robe.) Thank you so very much!!

Jean Marie! So sorry that I couldn't remember that it was you who asked. Hopefully this helped you!
